Automate Obstructive Sleep Apnea Diagnosis Using Convolutional Neural Networks

چکیده
Identifying sleep problem severity from overnight polysomnography (PSG) recordings plays an important role in diagnosing and treating disorders such as the Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). This analysis traditionally is done by specialists manually through visual inspections, which can be tedious, time-consuming, prone to subjective errors. One of solutions use Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) where convolutional pooling layers behave feature extractors some fully-connected (FCN) are used for making final predictions OSA severity. In this paper, a CNN architecture with 1D FCN classification presented. The PSG data project Cleveland Children’s Health Study database results confirm effectiveness proposed method. model achieves excellent without preprocesssing signals extraction reduction.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a disorder characterized by intermittent upper-airway collapse, which impairs ventilation and disrupts sleep. Factors that contribute to upper-airway collapse include reduced upper-airway dilator muscle activity during sleep, specific upper-airway anatomical features, decreased end-expiratory lung volume, ventilatory control instability, sleep-state instability,...

Symptoms and signs in 12 patients with severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) syndrome have been presented. The most common symptoms were snoring , increased motor activity during sleep and excessive daytime somnolence. The factors predisposing to OSA syndrome were obesity and anatomic abnormalities of the upper airway structure. In some cases the signs of OSA syndrome included hypertension, righ...

Blood pressure, heart rate, sympathetic nerve activity, and polysomnography were recorded during wakefulness and sleep in 10 patients with obstructive sleep apnea. Measurements were also obtained after treatment with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) in four patients. Awake sympathetic activity was also measured in 10 age- and sex-matched control subjects and in 5 obese subjects withou...
